Verse Of The Day : Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me…Psalms 59 : 1-4

LISTEN : God is the defender of the defenseless, Father to the fatherless; comforter to the brokenhearted, and Deliverer of the oppressed. God will surely arise to defend you. Do I mean to excite you with that? Of course not! David’s life is an ample example of the power and grace of God towards those who seek Him. Those who cry out to God, He will certainly deliver them from their enemies. No doubt, there are many wicked people, oppressors, tyrants, life destroyers, etc around us today, but they are too small for God. There is no oppressor too strong for God to handle, no tyrant is too powerful for Him to tame, no wicked man is too wicked that He cannot destroy if He so desire; no prison is too fortified that He cannot open and let Satan’s prisoners go free. God is a great God and does great things for His people. However, His people must learn to seek His help. When in trouble and danger David said, “Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me…” (Psalms 59 : 1-4).

What does that mean? It means that David recognised that there were enemies all around him, both known and unknown; he equally acknowledged that God is the only reliable source and the unmatchable force that could deliver him from his powerful enemies. David knew that his enemies never meant well for him but evil, because they were bloody men, whose plan was to ambush him and do away with his life. Besides, he acknowledged that they were many that were against him, but he cried out to God to deliver him. You may say, I do not have an enemy because I have a cordial relationship with the people; beloved, you do not have to be bad to attract enemies, they are just there.(Isaiah 59 : 7; Proverbs 1 : 16; Romans 3 : 15). It happened to David for no fault of his in our verse of the day and he said, “The mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. They run and prepare themselves without my fault:”(Psalms 59 : 3,4). The NEW ENGLISH TRANSLATION puts it more clearer thus: “For look, they wait to ambush me; powerful men stalk me, but not because I have rebelled or sinned, O LORD. Though I have done nothing wrong, they are anxious to attack. Spring into action and help me! Take notice of me!” Beloved, enemies will just want to attack because they do not want you. Your existence frustrates them, hence they will want you out of the way. However, you have a choice, call on God for help and He will certainly deliver you from the desires of your enemies. Remember, God will arise to defend you.

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. You are expected to prayerfully invite God into your battles and allow Him fight your enemies.
2. To trust God to defend you where you cannot defend yourself.
3. To be alert and watchful lest the enemy invade and destroy you.
4. To always remain in the duty of prayer until and after the will of God is done in your life.

Daily Task : Do not forget that enemies will just want to attack because they do not want you. Your existence frustrates them, hence they will want you out of the way. Therefore, call on God for help and He will certainly deliver you from the desires of your enemies.

Daily Reflection : There is no oppressor too strong for God to handle, no tyrant is too powerful for Him to tame, no wicked man is too wicked that He cannot destroy if He so desire; no prison is too fortified that He cannot open and let prisoners of Satan go free. Cheer up! For you are free.

Prayer : LORD God, I acknowledge your power over the cause of the enemy against me, defend me from their evil, and cause their evil attempts at me to always fail in Jesus’ name, amen.

Prophetic Word : Today, I prophesy over your life, every evil plot against you is averted today. As you hold on to God, every evil agenda is returning to where it came from, in Jesus’ name.
